Potential Histories

 Potential Histories

Explorations involving themes of Identity, Relationships, Meanings and Metaphors can be found throughout much of my work. Potential Histories Investigates within both interior and exterior-constructed landscapes creating a narrative that brings the viewer into a world of familiarity charged with an absence of a presence, ultimately giving the viewer a window to peek into the lives of others both literally and figuratively without it feeling intrusive due to the absence of the owners. Focusing the attention to one apartment building in the downtown Toronto core allows a broad range of owners and lifestyle to build history in the spaces.  A collected portrait of the owners created by the signs of life and objects they have left behind them, create a portrait of both the spaces and the potential owners, while both informing each other(space and owner). The lack of information given in the surrounding darkness is meant to encourage curiosity, and persuade the viewer to further investigate each space, allowing them to examine the history and meaning held in each portrait.

STORYTELLER

I don't need to be told the story, in fact I would rather not know your version.

I prefer to tell it myself.

ill never wear running shoes

just sittin around going through some older images. above are a couple of digital pinhole explorations i did for a series, the final ended up becoming something rather different but i've always kind of liked these.
my reason for posting these is because I truly believe that no one should ever be ashamed of their artwork, even if it "didnt make the cut". it's still a piece of yourself that at one point in your life you were proud of, so that being said.. don't be ashamed of your sketches that the teacher said was awful or the photographs that lacked conceptual integrity.
WHY NOT JUST LOVE ART FOR BEING ART EVERY NOW AND AGAIN?
if it makes you happy or evokes ANYTHING/SOMETHING out of you or others, then why not accept it for what it is and stop comparing it to the mona lisa.

so cheers to Art and every doodle you have ever done!

Did you go to Nuit Blanche this year?

I didn't spend too much time wandering this city this year, i wasn't even sure if i wanted to go at all to be honest (*GASP) but I'm glad I did end up going for a bit since there is always something cool going on everywhere you look!

Above is a photograph I took at City Hall last night during Nuit Blanche, probably one of my favourite exhibits of the night... city hall always seems to know what I'm talkin' 'bout.

oh, one thing though...WHY did certain areas seem like such a highschool party and whyyy were there so many food vendors? I don't know about this guys...

YOUNG ARNOLD
